Product Overview
The QIAGEN® QIAamp® DNA Blood Mini Kit (250) uses silica-membrane spin-column technology to purify genomic, mitochondrial and viral DNA from whole blood and compatible body-fluid samples. This configuration includes components for 250 DNA minipreps.
Samples are lysed with QIAGEN Protease and Buffer AL. DNA binds selectively to the QIAamp silica membrane, contaminants are removed through two wash steps, and purified DNA is eluted in Buffer AE or water for downstream molecular biology applications.
The kit supports fresh or frozen whole blood treated with citrate, EDTA or heparin, as well as plasma, serum, buffy coat, lymphocytes and other sample types covered by the current handbook. Samples can be processed manually by centrifugation, by vacuum with the required accessories, or through an applicable QIAcube® Connect protocol.

Ethanol, 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tubes, pipette tips, a microcentrifuge, vortexer, 56°C heating device and other protocol-specific equipment are supplied by the user. Vacuum processing requires additional equipment and accessories.
Bind–Wash–Elute Purification
1. Lyse
QIAGEN Protease and Buffer AL lyse the sample and establish conditions for DNA binding.
2. Bind
DNA binds to the silica membrane during a centrifugation or vacuum step while many contaminants pass through.
3. Wash
Buffers AW1 and AW2 remove residual contaminants and inhibitors without releasing the bound DNA.
4. Elute
Purified DNA is recovered in Buffer AE or suitable water for an appropriately validated downstream workflow.

Processing Options
