Alere iScreen OFD Cotinine Test Device
The Alere iScreen OFD Cotinine Test is a rapid oral fluid screening device that can be performed without the use of a machine. The test utilizes antibodies to selectively detect elevated levels of specific cotinine (nicotine) in human oral fluid.
Cotinine is an alkaloid found in tobacco leaves and the main metabolite of nicotine. It is the product formed after the chemical nicotine enters the body. Nicotine is a chemical found in tobacco products, including cigarettes and chewing tobacco. Measuring cotinine in people’s blood is the most reliable way to determine exposure to nicotine for both smokers and nonsmokers exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). Measuring cotinine is preferred to measuring nicotine because cotinine remains in the body longer. Learn more about cotinine from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
